SweetgrassGolf ClubSweetgrass League Guide
A quick, complete introduction to the league—who can play, how matches work, what membership includes and how to get started.
Start here
Sweetgrass is a Charleston-area golf community built around two-man teams, flexible scheduling and season-long competition. Players compete for their team, their Haus and a place in the playoffs—without being tied to one course or one weekly tee time.
Who can play
The current Sweetgrass league is men’s only. A separate women’s league will launch if enough women express interest.

Bring a partner and form a two-man team, or enter the members-only Partner Pool to connect with another approved golfer. Both teammates confirm the team before payment is due.
Your home ZIP gives you a provisional Haus during preseason. Teammates from different territories choose a shared Haus preference; once both agree, both players join that provisional Haus. About one week before roster lock, Sweetgrass reviews geography, team strength and roster size while keeping teammates together. Final assignments require club approval and lock for the season before block scheduling.
View the Haus map & ZIP list →Teams receive an opponent for each playing block, then agree on the course, date and tee time. Matches are not locked to one course, weekday or standing tee time, and every regular-season block includes two weekends.
Regular-season and early playoff matches are nine-hole, two-man scramble match play. Both teams record a complete team score on every official hole; the championship is played over 18 holes.
Results feed standings, Power Rankings, records, badges and the Haus Cup. The best teams advance through the playoffs to the 18-hole championship.
The season
Sweetgrass runs two seasons each year. Each includes a regular season, playoffs and a champion.
Each regular-season block runs for 14 days and includes two full weekends, with an automatic seven-day weather extension when needed.
Cross-Haus matchups pair teams with similar strength. Team handicaps and preseason ratings guide the opening schedule; confirmed results inform later matchups.
The home team starts scheduling, but both teams agree on the course and tee time. Players pay the course's normal green fee.
Wins earn 3 points, ties 1.5, losses 0.5 and forfeits 0. The playoff field expands as the league grows.
Spring 2027
Applications are open. Get approved, choose your membership and confirm a teammate or enter the Partner Pool. Payment is due after an approved team is confirmed.
Approved members with confirmed teams have 14 days to pay. Teams confirmed before January 1 start their window on opening day; teams confirmed later start their window at confirmation. Partner Pool players owe nothing while unpaired.
Planned for February 1, 2027 at 7:30 p.m. ET. Teams will receive their full opponent list for each block with the schedule.
Spring 2027 is planned to begin in late February or early March. The exact start date and six 14-day match blocks will be announced with the official schedule.
The official match
Each teammate hits, the team chooses its preferred shot, and both golfers play from there. The process repeats until the ball is holed. If both teams continue for 18, the front nine remains the official match unless it is the championship.
More than matches
League play, playoffs, events, recruiting, participation, records and club challenges help your Haus compete for the annual Cup.
Team record, strength of schedule, recent form, scoring and handicap-adjusted performance shape rankings throughout the season.
Registered members can pick match winners, build prediction streaks and compete on seasonal and yearly leaderboards.
Champions, records, badges, rivalries and defining club moments become part of the Sweetgrass Record Book and Yearbook.

Application → approval → team confirmation → payment. Approved players with confirmed teams can pay now. Each player has 14 days to pay: teams confirmed before January 1, 2027 start their deadline on January 1; teams confirmed on or after then start their deadline at confirmation. Partner Pool players owe nothing while looking. Both teammates must pay before the team is eligible for league play.
Quick answers

No. You can apply individually and use the partner pool, or invite an approved player after you create your team.
Not while they are searching. Once a team is confirmed and both players are approved, they can pay. If the team is confirmed before January 1, 2027, the 14-day deadline starts January 1; teams confirmed on or after then get 14 days from confirmation.
Spring 2027 is planned to begin in late February or early March. The exact start date and six 14-day match blocks will be announced with the official schedule. Roster lock and schedule release are planned for February 1, 2027 at 7:30 p.m. ET.
Each regular-season block lasts 14 days and includes two full weekends. A seven-day weather extension applies when needed.
In-Haus matches are grouped into the same designated blocks for everyone, with Cross-Haus matches in their designated blocks. Cross-Haus pairings prioritize parity: strong teams play similarly strong teams, average teams play comparable teams, and developing teams play similarly rated opponents. Every team receives its full opponent list with the schedule.
A Callout is a rivalry a team selects at the start of the season. A Classic is a rivalry the system recognizes as teams build match history. Callouts do not guarantee a scheduled matchup; all rivalry matchups remain subject to block structure and competitive parity.
No. You and your opponent schedule within each 14-day playing block, giving both teams room to work around jobs, family and real-life schedules.
Yes. Team handicaps and preseason strength guide the schedule so cross-Haus matches pair teams of similar strength.
No. Membership supports the league and club experience. Players pay their own course fees for each scheduled match.
